Tous is moving its sustainability strategy forward in partnership with Tracemark, the pioneering company guaranteeing complete jewelry traceability. In a press release sent yesterday, the international jewelry brand based in Barcelona announced a pilot project so that its customers can check the origin of the materials, the manufacture behind each piece of jewelry and its certifications through an alphanumeric code or QR that will accompany each piece.

For the moment it applies only to one collection, Teddy Bear Stars, made in gold and diamonds, which was released in Christmas. Its fully traced jewelry will be available again in April in four markets, Spain, Portugal, Russia and Mexico. As mentioned above, each piece of jewelry will have an alphanumeric code engraved on it and a QR code on its label, through which consumers will be able to access Tracemark’s interactive and personalized traceability panel.

“In this way, they will be able to verify that the gold and diamonds in the collection are 100% ethical and responsible in origin. For gold, it comes from refineries that only work with CoC gold (Chain of Custody). CoC gold certification is a distinction awarded by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) showing that it comes from verified sources, following the best international environmental practices and social standards recognized the world over”, says Tous’ press release.

The traceability details provided by Tracemark also shows diamonds’ origins and the manufacturing process behind each piece, while externally endorsing the compliance with the Kimberley Process to which Tous is already committed. “In addition, customers will also see that the manufacture of the collection is the result of the partnership between TOUS’ workshops in Manresa and artisans who work alongside the company from Córdoba and Italy. This work method stems from the jewelery firms’s commitment to form partnerships in the sector”.

Rosa Tous, the company’s corporate vice-president, says that: “This partnership reaffirms our firm belief in combining innovation and age-old jewelry techniques as the key to moving the sector forward, in which sustainability will play a key role”.

Tracemark is a new company, pioneer in guaranteeing the complete traceability of jewelry pieces, which only works with companies certified by the RJC (Responsible Jewellery Council).
