“Jewelry: tradition and traceability” – El Periódico de Córdoba

If there is a sector that is deeply rooted in Cordoba, it is undoubtedly that of jewelry. It could be said that every Cordobese knows someone who in the 1980s and 1990s worked in one of the hundreds of jewelry workshops that were spread around the city. Then came the macro project of the Jewelry Park. In 2005, this project brought together in a single space more than 200 companies within the sector. Today, the Jewelry Park has consolidated as a reference of craftmanship and innovation in the jewelry industry, employing more than 1,000 people.

Some of these companies currently based in the Jewelry Park have more history than others, but all of them contribute to Cordoba’s jewelry industry to keep moving forward and remain a reference. The latest company to join the Park has been Tracemark, a start-up that offers a pioneering solution to provide complete traceability of jewelry pieces from their origin (the responsible sourcing of raw materials such as diamonds or gold) to the end consumer, analyzing all the processes in between.

The co-founder and CEO of Tracemark, Berta Serret, explains that their mission is to “guarantee that each certified piece has been subject to the highest ethical standards“, including the requirement that all the manufacturing companies they work with have their corresponding RJC (Responsible Jewellery Council) certificate, which means, among other things, that a series of labor requirements and due diligence have been met.

Traceability and sustainability are the concepts that define the work of Tracemark, which has been based in the Jewelry Park since September last year, operating globally while having their headquarters right next to their Pilot Partner Member’s, Facet. Despite being such a young company, their future is guaranteed. At least that’s how Berta Serret sees it, who sees the coronavirus pandemic as “an opportunity”. “We were living a frenetic life. This pause has given us time to rethink things. Sustainability is here to stay and the consumer is increasingly interested,” explains Serret, who recalls that a company can say “I am sustainable”, but “how can they prove it”, and that’s where Tracemark comes in.
