“Facet chooses Cordoba for the recovery of Spanish fine jewellery industry” – Gold and Time

11/09/2020

The company directed by Josep Miquel Serret is making a strong commitment to face up to the current health and economic crisis by promoting local production in Spain. Facet announced this week the opening of a new factory in Córdoba Jewellery Park with an initial investment of around 500,000 euros, which will employ 40 specialised professionals according to an article from the Diario de Córdoba.

The firm, occupying 1,000 square metres of the Jewellery Park, aims “to reach a new segment of consumers for whom we need another type of production, with high-tech machinery and a jewellery finishes”, he explains. For this new episode, Facet will have the support of the Cordoba-based manufacturer Alias Concept, one of the most outstanding firms in the Park, that has undergone significant development in recent years. The company will produce 80% of its production.

The establishment of Facet in Cordoba will be therefore done by this local partner, Alias Concept SL, with which Serret says it has “many affinities”. “They are also making a very important commitment and are investing in machinery, development and personnel”, says Serret, who has not only moved his business to Cordoba, but has also moved his personal base to live here.

Serret’s objective is to reach a turnover of around 30 million euros during the next year, according to the newspaper from Cordoba, and at the same time consolidate the traditional cradle of Andalusian and Spanish jewellery as “a reference point” in the production of high quality jewellery.

Transparency and sustainability

But the activity of the company that Serret founded in 1987 does not stop here. Since the last few years and especially after the irruption of the pandemic at a global level, Facet has developed an important work in the field of the traceability of diamonds to place itself in the front line of ethics and sustainability in jewellery.

The firm, in collaboration with other entities in the sector, has started up the Tracemark project, an independent software platform based on the traceability of the raw materials used in jewellery, both diamonds and metals or other gems. “Traceability, the knowledge of the origin of gems, especially diamonds, is the means by which transparency and sustainability of the entire supply chain in the diamond industry can be achieved” explains Serret.

The idea is to promote this software as a vehicle for mining companies, diamond manufacturers, wholesalers, jewellery manufacturers and retailers to come together on the same platform, where the consumer can also be assured of the product’s ethical and sustainable provenance.
